Visitor Center

The Norfolk Visitor Information Center is conveniently located off Interstate 64 at exit 273 just three miles from the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. The unique design of the building resembles the sail of a boat as to rises some 25 feet above the wetlands of Willoughby.

This area of Willoughby Bay was filled in as part of the expansion of Naval Station Norfolk in the 1940’s. Over the years the area has become a marshland of willowy sea grasses, shade trees and home to Egrets and other species of birds and wildlife.

The Visitor Center is surrounded by wooden decking with benches and picnic tables providing a lovely spot to enjoy a picnic lunch. Its staff is ready to assist with directions and a wide variety of printed brochures and resources.

The Visitor Center is also equipped with free Wi-Fi. and has a small gift shop with Norfolk mermaid souvenirs and snacks.
