We are a Virginia Green Destination.

If you are looking for a green destination in which to enjoy your vacation or hold your next meeting, Norfolk will certainly meet your needs. The city proudly received its certification as a Virginia Green Destination in the fall of 2009 having met all of the necessary criteria.

Currently, Norfolk certified Green businesses include Norfolk International Airport – the Commonwealth’s first Virginia Green airport, 12 hotels, 10 restaurants, five major attractions and eight travel & partner organizations. This year several Green events took place in Norfolk including Clean the Bay Day and Chow! Hampton Roads.

Certified hotels now offer optional linen service, recycling and facilities to accommodate groups who want “green” events. Restaurants minimize the use of disposable food service products, recycle waste, conserve energy and use water efficiently.

The City of Norfolk’s manager of environmental protection programs actively leads efforts to incorporate sustainability into municipal operations. The City is recycling in all city-owned buildings and is currently operating a cigarette litter prevention program. Town Point Park, which re-opened after substantial renovations in July 2009 boasts an eco-friendly plant palate, lighting fixtures that minimize energy, furnishings manufactured from recycled material and trash recycling during all events.
